When Madeline and Nelson reached out to me that they were expecting I was over the moon for them! We did their wedding photography in 2023 and had an amazing time at The Roundhouse in Beacon NY. Spring in the Hudson Valley is one of the most beautiful times of year for outdoor maternity photos, and this sweet session is proof. Nestled in a peaceful, tree-lined field with soft golden light filtering through the trees, this couple embraced a cozy, casual look that let their connection—and growing baby bump—shine.
We chose to do their session at the Testimonial Gateway which is part of Minnewaska State Park in New Paltz NY. It turned out to be a beautiful April evening. We were expecting tall grass in the fields. Madeline sent me some inspiration photos and my mind immediately went to the Gateway. Although, when we got there they had sadly mowed the grass so we had a very normal open field. That didn’t stop us from getting some EPIC images.
For expecting mamas looking for maternity outfit inspiration, this denim-on-denim look is a perfect choice. The light wash button down shirt paired with matching jeans created a relaxed, effortless vibe while still feeling pulled together. The open shirt and crop top also highlighted her baby bump in a flattering and natural way.
Nelson coordinated with a black flannel and dark jeans, keeping the focus on connection and comfort. When styling couples for maternity photos, I always recommend sticking to earthy tones or neutrals that complement the natural surroundings, like in this forest-meets-field setting in the Hudson Valley.
As a Hudson Valley maternity photographer, I always encourage my clients to wear outfits that feel like them—something they’re comfortable in, can move in, and that reflects their personal style. This couple nailed it with their laid-back look and easy smiles.
